Dr. Jawad Abrache holds a B.Eng. in Computer Science from the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Informatique et d’Analyse des Systèmes” (ENSIAS) in 1995, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Montréal in 1998 and 2004, respectively. Prior to joining Al Akhawayn University (AUI), Dr. Abrache worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher from February 2004 to July 2005 at the Center for Research on Transportation in Montréal, then at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Maryland at College Park. Dr. Abrache’s research interests include areas such as: combinatorial auction mechanism design, optimal bidding and decision making in truckload markets, optimal contracting in the transportation industry, optimization in the energy industry, and optimal trading in financial markets. He has publications in reputable Operations Research journals such as the European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operations Research, Computers and Operations Research, and 4OR, and has served as a reviewer for several journals including: Operations Research, Transportation Science, the European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, etc. As a member of AUI’s School of Business Administration (SBA) faculty body, Dr. Abrache taught courses related to optimization, supply chain management, and business statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In terms of service to the institution, Dr. Abrache has been SBA’s Undergraduate Coordinator from September 2007 to August 2011, and SBA’s Dean from February 2016 to July 2017, and Co-Chair of the NECHE Re-accreditation taskforce since October 2020. He has also served in various committees at School and University levels, including the Academic Council, Quality Assurance and Accreditation, Research, Peer-Evaluation, and Hiring.
