Chapter 6 Employee BenefitsAl Akhawayn University provides employees and their dependents with a wide range of benefits 6.1 Social SecurityThe National Social Security Fund, La Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale (CNSS) provides security against the risks of income withdrawal in cases of sickness, maternity, disability, and retirement. All eligible employees participate in the social security plan as provided by law. Information regarding benefits provided by CNSS (chid benefit, sick and maternity allowance, disability, retirement…) are available in the Benefits Guide. Further information can also be provided by HRO. 6.2 Medical InsuranceAUI health insurance plan provides employees and their dependents access to medical insurance benefits. All permanent administrative and technical personnel are entitled to this plan. Family coverage (spouse and children) is allowed for permanent personnel only. While children of both female and male employees are automatically covered, only non-working spouses are entitled to this benefit upon submission of a certificate of unemployment. Temporary personnel whose contracts are for three (3) months period or more are entitled to medical insurance without incapacity. Part time employees are not entitled to the medical insurance plan of the University. Details of the health insurance plan are described on the Benefit Guide. Employees can also contact HRO for further information about this plan. 6.3 Incapacity and Disability InsuranceAl Akhawayn University provides a partial and long-tem disability plan to help eligible employees cope with an illness or injury that results in a long absence from employment. It is designed to ensure a continuing income for employees who are disabled or unable to work. Details about this plan are described in the Benefits Guide. 6.4 Complementary RetirementAUI provides a supplemental retirement plan for eligible employees. This plan is open to every Moroccan and permanent employee at Al Akhawayn University. Participation in this plan is optional for all eligible employees. This retirement plan expects the employee portion of contributions to a minimum of 3% of the gross salary. University contributions vary following employee’s salary. For lower salaries, University contributes up to 9% of the gross salary. Detailed information about this plan is available in the Benefit Guide. 6.5 Tuition WaiverThe University offers a tuition waiver plan for dependent children and spouses of eligible AUI personnel. Conditions and eligibility are found in the Benefit Guide. 6.6 ASI Tuition Waiver for Dependent ChildrenPersonnel whose children are enrolled at Al Akhawyn School of Ifrane benefit from a tuition waiver as specified in the school’s regulations. 6.7 Combined Graduate Study/Employment:In the common interest of both the University and its staff, the University is offering its staff the opportunity to pursue graduate studies at AUI. To qualify for the program the staff member must have completed at least four years as an employee of the University. He/she must have been admitted to a graduate academic program following the normal admission procedure. The staff member must obtain the approval of the Executive Officer responsible for the division in which the staff member is employed. This approval is subject to an excellent job performance and to his/her ability to continue such performance during the period of study. The final decision concerning the participation in this program will be taken by an Executive Committee appointed by the President. The academic and financial rules are explained in the Benefit Guide 6.8 Sick Leave PolicyThe sick leave policy highlights AUI’s regulations concerning salary payment when the employee is away from work due to illness. Any duration of sick leave must be properly documented by a medical certificate communicated to HRO. The sick leave policy is detailed in the Benefit Guide 6.9 Maternity LeaveThe Maternity Leave Policy highlights AUI’s regulations concerning salary payment when the employee is away from work due to maternity.
