Lina Cabrera is the 6th grade English Language Arts teacher, Literacy Coach for K-6, and After School Activities Coordinator. She obtained her first bachelor’s degree in Black Studies with a minor in Jewish Studies. After working several years outside of the education field, she went back to her alma mater City College of New York and obtained her second bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education. Lina was born in La Paz, Bolivia, but she moved to New York City at the age of one to the upper west side neighborhood in Manhattan. She is fluent in Spanish and English. She moved to Morocco in the fall of 2011. During her first two years at ASI, Lina worked as a teacher for the preschool 3 and 4 year olds and painted murals for the preschool building. She helped organize the Talent Show and assists in coordinating some of the school’s cultural events. As a 6th grade ELA teacher, Lina uses technology and relevant short documentary links to help her students make real world connections and think of themselves as citizens of the world. She is currently teaching her students Windows Live Movie Maker for their upcoming Oral History Project as well as assisting them in their research and learning how to properly conduct and transcribe an interview. During her spare time, she likes to travel with her son, paint, draw, and cook. She still considers herself a New Yorker and makes sure to travel to New York City every summer as well as visiting other countries.
