  • Lina Cabrera is the Elective teacher (Visual Arts, Music, and P.E) for grades preschool to 2nd grade. She was raised in New York City in the upper west side. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and she knows French. Lina obtained her first bachelor’s degree in Black Studies with a minor in Jewish Studies from City College of New York. After working several years outside of the education field, she went back to her alma mater City College of New York and obtained her second bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education (Grades 1 to 6) in 2011. Every year, Lina organizes the annual ASI Art Show in June and the Elementary School Cultural Evening in December. During her years as ASI’s Visual Arts teacher (Grades K to 12th grade), Lina organized a field trip to Chefchaouen in 2015 with her art elective class to explore the distinct blue houses and doors of Chefchaouen. In 2016 and 2017, she organized a field trip to Barcelona, Spain for her art elective students to explore the work of Antoni Gaudi (Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera, and Park Güell.) Lina continues to believe in the importance of field trips, and she organizes an annual trip to Volubilis for her 2nd grade students and trip to Tarmilat for 1st grade and kindergarten. Lina is very passionate about artists such as Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Romero Britto, Kehinde Wiley, and Keith Haring among many other artists. Her second grade students are currently working on Romero Britto style selfportraits, and her first grade students are working on a water color painting collage of cactus and sunsets. Lina uses her travels to Spain, London, Greece, Morocco, and her annual trip to her hometown New York City, as an inspiration to teach Visual Arts. In her music class, her students learn diverse music including hip hop, reggae, 60s and 80s music, and international music along with the importance of stage presence. In her P.E. class, her students learn the importance of exercising, sportsmanship, and not giving up. This is her 9th year living in Morocco and working at ASI.
