Abacus Club

Where mathematics addicts create wild activities to make students fall in love with math!

ACM Chapter

One of the 500 university chapters of the ACM Worldwide Association. We promote education

in computer science and information technology, and help gain insight into computing as a profession. Students participate in annual national and international computer programming contests such as the highly esteemed Microsoft Imagine Cup.

Agraw Club

The main objective is to promote the Rifiulture. We teach Rifi language classes, invite associations who produce handicrafts and food from the Rif area to promote their products here at AUI, hold poetry and literature nights in addition to music events featuring national and international Rifi artists (Idir in 2008).

IG Atlas, AIESEC@AUI

Created in the Fall 2010, IG Atlas is an AUI local subsidiary of the internationally operative AIESEC.

Still in its probationary period, IG Atlas aspires to attain official recognition as a committee by

September 2011. The following is a definition of the aims and objectives, taken from the AIESEC

website:

Present in over 107 countries and territories and with over 50,000 members, AIESEC is the world's largest youth-run organization. Focused on providing a platform for youth leadership development, AIESEC offers young people the opportunity to participate in international internships, experience leadership and participate in a global learning environment. What makes AIESEC unique is the youth driven impactful experience that it offers to its members. AIESEC is run by young people for young people, enabling a strong experience to all its stakeholders. Internships can range from 7 weeks – 18 months and must involve both outgoing and incoming exchange opportunities. Three outgoing exchanges have so far been established– an IT placement in Brazil and also in India, and a development studies and cultural education post in Poland.

Astronomy Club

To promote astronomical knowledge among AUI students and the local community through star gazing nights, links to global astronomy sightings and events,and excursions to centres such as the Rabat Observatory which houses the largest telescope in Morocco. Previous students have collaborated with NASA on a meteorological study.

Aytmatn Club

Imazighen: The Free People. Come and explore Morocco through the lives of the Imazighen tribes, learn a language that has existed since prehistoric times, hear the folklore and poetry sung for generations out in the mountains and valleys.

Cinema club

Newly created to attract fellow movie addicts! We invite Moroccan film directors to come and introduce their latest releases and encourage debates, organize screenings and critiques. We also offer workshops given by experts in the field of script writing, video production and visual arts. In 2010 members of the club attended The ‘Short Film Festival’ in Tetouan and ‘The Marrakech Film Festival’; an opportunity to gawp at the stars walking the red carpet!

Communication Club

In collaboration with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and with the added benefit of SHSS faculty advisors, the Communication Club organizes public presentations on issues related to communication and mass media projects. The club’s latest initiation is to organize Moroccan Film Days where prominent Moroccan actors and directors are invited to attend to present their films.

Courant d’Art Club

An opportunity to expand AUI students’ artistic skills & knowledge! The club offers regular lessons in piano, drumming, fine art painting and cooking by fellow club members. It also curates on campus exhibitions of established artists from within Morocco,stages an annualCaftan Show with the latest collections from prominent Moroccan stylists.

Diplomacy Club

Diplomats, journalists and politicians are invited to come and talk about current affairs with the AUI community. These efforts seek to advance academic knowledge and training in diplomacy, especially for those majoring in International Studies, and to establish a network of contacts among members of other interest groups.

Drama Club

From theatre plays, skits and theatrical improvisations within the Talent Show or as light relief between rounds in Brain Bash!, this club offers one and all the chance to discover and celebrate their creative personalities through theatre; and entertain the AUI community!

DJ Club

If you like the idea of crowds of people going crazy to your set, where they whoop like mad when you scratch and rewind and listen out for the seamless mix of one track into another, then come and learn the life behind the decks. You get ample opportunity to practice your thing when other clubs call you up to be their DJ at events they put on!

Economics Club

Members organize regular conferences andtalks by famous national guest speakers for AUI students to know more about the field of economics. Field trips to both new and well established major businesses in the country are often part of the program.

Explorers Club

Is that plant edible? How do I collect water? What do I need to build a shelter? Essential bushcraft techniques for the adventurous spirit and all the camping and hiking know how to get you up into the hills and enjoy the outdoors. One day and weekend hikes in the Ifrane region are organized all through the year to offer a diverse set of conditions to the hiker and increase students’ skills.

Feminist Club

We are interested in raising awareness about gender issues in Morocco and the Arab world.

This has so far included movie projections centred around women’s emancipation, open forums for all on current affairs relevant to human rights and equality in the 21st century, a poetry workshop on self expression with Roxanna Azari, an American Iranian slam poet, and soon we are starting literacy classes for female staff working at AUI.

Finance Club

We like students who are passionate aboutfinance and figures! Visits are organized to the Stock Exchange in Casablanca and key industrial zones in major Moroccan cities including the 9.25 billion dirham Tangier Free Zone of Tangier Med Port I and II. Financial experts and analysts are also invited to come and talk at AUI.

Future Entrepreneurs Club

This club helps students polish their entrepreneurial and leadership skills and prepare them for establishing their own businesses in the future. Visits are organized to small business initiatives and cooperatives as well as multi-national corporations: students are encouraged to understand the organizational structure of all sized companies and how they function. Company directors are invited to AUI to talk about their experiences and pass on entrepreneurial essentials.

Guitar Club

Learn or improve your level of guitar and participate in AUI competitions. Multiple opportunities to perform solo or as part of a group at AUI events and fundraisers held throughout the year.

German Club

A tutor from the International School of Mediterranean Languages teaches AUI students German with additional opportunities to discover and embrace the German culture through an on campus carnival and a summer exchange program to Germany.

Hand in Hand Association

Our goal is outreach in the Ifrane region, in particular to promote the importance of literacy and health. Activities range from tutoring classes in local schools and youth centres, improving access to books and reading throughthe AUI Mobile Library, assisting as translators and facilitators on dental campaigns and checkups, coordinating a clothes and shoes bank and delivering to communities in need. The annual Fun Run, organized by AUI students, is a key fundraiser attracting national media attention – money raised in previous years has gone to equipping local schools with heating, electricity and transport. webpage: www.handinhandaui.tk 

AUI Students for Africa

Students investigate the roots of sufferance in Africa, employ the most practical strategies to muster needed resources for ultimate goals of pro-poor growth, regional integration and development.A yearly exchange takes place between students from Harvard and AUI to increase cross cultural awareness and understanding about Africa and its diversity. 2011 marked the first Africa Day on campus celebrating food, dance, drumming and African fashion.

Human Resources Club

A club that makes students aware of new strategies and policies in managing human resources, and codes and practices that can improve personnel performance.

Islamic Art & Culture Club

A celebration of architecture, poetry, music, art, hospitality and solidarity within the Islamic world. On campus events and visits to museums and heritage sites as well as environmental

campaigns in the Ifrane region – “clean earth, clean mind”.

Japanese Circle

In collaboration with exchange students from Japan, classes are held to teach the language. An annual Japanese day at AUI provides a rich opportunity to delve into the culture with sushi, exhibitions of cultural icons and traditions and music, as well as calligraphy and origami workshops. The Japanese Embassy in Rabat support and attend this event which we are always grateful for.

Marketing Club

An active calendar of guest speakers put on throughout the year to talk about the latest issues

in the vast field of marketing from the British Council’s approach to social entrepreneurship in Morocco to tips and advice from Google’s Casablanca office.

Mimouna Club

A U I students, irrelevant of their religious denomination,can discover and learn more about the rich Jewish Moroccan cultural heritage. From excursions to cities guided by local Rabbis to on campus conferences lead byprominent Moroccan Jewish figures such as André Azoulai, Adviser to our Royal Majesty the King, to an annual day at AUI where crafts, traditions and music celebrate the Moroccan Jewish culture.

Multicultural Club

We provide an opportunity for students from all backgrounds to meet one another and interact in a safe and welcoming environment; to celebrate cultural difference and similarity here at AUI in the form of cultural holidays, awareness events and festivities,field trips and relaxed gatherings.

Photography Club

Photo shooting, F-Stops, ISOs, shutter speeds – a range of workshops and excursions to learn and practice techniques for all photography fans.

Public Speaking and Debating Society (PSDS)

Public speaking is not only an art but an invaluable asset to any career. We are the voices of our

future and need to equip ourselves with the skills and confidence tospeak our minds with

conviction in front of an audience, to sustain a point of view, to think spontaneously. Why not

start now? AUI debates and competitions are held on campus as well as an opportunity to gain

a place in the National Public Speaking Competition and if successful in the Internationals (held

this year in London).

Rotaract Club

The Rotaract mission is to foster leadership and responsible citizenship, encourage high ethical

standards in business, and promote international understanding and peace. At AUI we conduct

health awareness days, blood drives, circumcision days, and other social events. This year AUI

Rotaract won “Best Action for Public Interest” during the Rotaract MENA District Conference in

Tunisia, March 2011.

Social Sciences Club

Photography exhibitions, musicand comedy, interactive seminars – we use a range of different

mediums to talk about current affairs, awareness raising and our responsibility as the next

generation.

Student Engineering Network

We aimto make both SSE and non-SEE students change their vision about science and

engineering from boring and tiresome Majors to a field of exciting and diverse possibilities such

as video games development and programming.

Spanish Club

This club has an officialpartnership with the Cervantes Institute in Fes andholds regular

language lessons at AUI and cultural events with artists from Spain.

 

Student Government Association (SGA)

Weact as a collective voice of the AUIstudent community and address our needs and

concerns tothe University Administration.Elections of membersof the SGA are open toall

students. The SGA conducts business through resolutions that are researched by committees

and voted on by total membership. P a s s e dresolutions are forwarded to the S tu d e n t

A c t i v i t i e sMa n a g e ra n dt h eVice President for Student Affairs for review and comment. The

University President then receives the resolution and has thefinal authority.

Voices United Choir

The University choir carries multi cultural voices on journeys through global music genres:

gospel, classical, modern, and oriental. There are opportunities to perform semi annually in

AUI’s Talent Show and compete in national and international music competitions. So far this has

included Le Festival International de Musique Universitaire in Marrakech, Les Choralies in

Vaison-la-Romaine and The International Water Symposium in Cannes.

Writers’ Circle

A new club that explores the genres of writing through literature, plays and poetry. We hold

workshops on campus and multi lingual writing contests in the local community to inspire all to

put pen to paper.
