Student ActivitiesStudent Activities The Student Activities Office (SAO) at AUI is dedicated to developing the goals, values and objectives of the University. The primary objective of the SAO is to encourage co-curricular activities and recreational opportunities for students. The SAO develops entertaining and educational programs for the benefit of the AUI community all the while empowering students to create opportunities that they see fit for the university. The Student Activities Office never sleeps. With a multitude of events organized throughout the year, the SAO team ferries visiting artists, equipment and themselves back and forth across campus to create the university experience we all dream of. Our work is facilitated by the cooperation and participation of AUI’s creative and hard working students, who make the most of opportunities to enhance learning, develop personal leadership and team building skills in a fun and rewarding environment outside the classroom. Notable annual events organized by the Student Activities Office: Orientation for newcomers A three-day event aimed at helping newcomers get accustomed to campus life. Club fair Student organizations showcase their missions and activities to both first-year and returning students and encourage new membership. BRAIN BASH! In the wake of Jeopardy or Who wants to be a Millionaire?, an intellectual game show held over three consecutive nights. Groups of students compete against each other in a head to head competition: thus, the bashing of brains!!! Top top prizes to be won… no joke. Talent Show A very popular spring event with students showcasing a dazzling array of talents. 2011 even featured a return of AUI Alumni stars to the set list! International/national cultural trips A chance to provide you, the AUI Community, with opportunities for cross-cultural interaction both abroad and at home. From trips to the Sahara to cooking classes at the University of Dublin in Ireland, our aim is to facilitate a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural difference through first hand experience. Time for collective reflection is always built into trips to process and evaluate - not only to herald difference but our discovered similarities shared across religions, races and languages. We continue to strive to build responsible citizens in a world of diversity. Weekly spotlight To keep the campus bopping and buzzing, the Student Activities Office organizes an entertainment night every Wednesday – from Gnaoua to Jazz and Blues to DJ sets and quirky theatre troupes, there’s sure to be an event you’ll get excited about. If you are in the mood for something a little more relaxing, come to our movie and games nights, veg out on the oversized couches in the Student Lounge and watch a movie on the big screen (no post critique necessary), discover new vocabulary in Scrabble, take financial risks in Monopoly or practice your diplomacy in Chess. |
