Abdelkrim Marzouk, Associate Professor of Geography, published an article in the book L’Héritage Colonial du Maroc. The publication is a compendium of articles exploring the lasting effect of the French Protectorate in Morocco.

Student Mohamed Nidal Ouazzani ('15) won the first prize in The Power of the Pen, a panel presentation and a student writing competition held at Al Akhawayn University on April 25, 2013. Sponsored by Al Akhawayn School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the prize of 2,000 DH was awarded to the winning essayist to donate to a non-profit association of his choice in the Ifrane-Azrou area. Al Akhawayn panelists were Myronn Hardy, Poet and Lecturer of Creative Writing at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Alice Barnsdale, Community Service Coordinator; and Karen Smith, Chaplain; who collaborated with Al Akhawayn Leadership Development Institute on the organization of this event.

Christopher Longhurst, Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Al Akhawayn School of Humanities and Social Sciences, explores the topic of “Eucharistic Spirit of Islam – Parallels Between Islam and Christianity on the Eucharist” in an article of the same name recently published in ENCOUNTER – Documents for Muslim-Christian Understanding, a scholarly journal specializing in propagating interfaith dialogue between Islam and Christianity.

In the article, Longhurst examines historical concepts to evidence similarities between the Christian doctrine on the Eucharist and conceptual parallels in Islamic beliefs and rituals. View that abstract here
