  • Mr. Burnside received his Bachelor’s degree in English from The Evergreen State College in 2004. He received his Master’s of Fine Arts from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2009. Previously, he was a university instructor at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, New Mexico State University - Carlsbad, and Al Akhawayn University, teaching composition, business writing, and technical writing. He is a published poet and short story writer. His first collection of poetry, Caught and Mastered, was published by Stonesthrow Poetry Press in 2012. He began teaching at ASI in the Fall of 2017. He really loves the chance to share his appreciation of poetry and fiction with his students while helping to prepare them for their future jobs by focusing his pedagogy around the 5 C’s of 21st Century Education: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, cooperation, and communication. When Mr. Burnside is not teaching, he is most likely to be found hanging out with his family, surfing, skateboarding, and writing. At the moment, he is co-authoring a book about surfing and surf culture with a former professional surfer and writing his second book of poetry titled Perpetua Tilting.
