Grant Renewal Policy

Undergraduates (Bachelor Candidates)

Undergraduate beneficiaries are eligible for AUI grant for a maximum of eight (8) semesters. To be eligible for aid and to retain eligibility, a student must be making satisfactory academic progress by achieving a minimum semester grade point average (SGPA) .Therefore; all undergraduate financial aid recipients must maintain a minimum SGPA of 2.00/4.00 at the end of each semester. Students who fail to meet this requirement during the fall or spring semester are placed on financial aid probation for the following semester. If they are unable to re-achieve satisfactory academic standing at the conclusion of the probationary semester, they will be placed on "financial aid suspension" until such time that they satisfy the semester grade point average requirement. If, on the other hand, students obtain a semester grade point average below 1.50/4.00, they will lose their eligibility to financial aid for the following semester. The summer session GPA will not be taken into account either for probation, suspension or reinstatement.

The following table summarizes the data above:

Semester Status

Grant Decision

SGPA ≥ 2.00

Good standing: maintain grant for the following semester

SGPA between 1.50 – 1.99

Grant probation and maintain grant with condition to obtain SGPA 2.00 or better for the following semester

SGPA below 1.50

Grant suspension for the following semester until
you reach SGPA 2.00 or higher

SGPA below 2.00 after two
consecutive semesters

Grant suspension for the following semester until
you reach SGPA 2.00 or higher

A separate financial aid system is also applicable to students with AUI grant enrolled in Language Center courses with or without regular courses in their first or second semester at AUI.

At the end of the semester:

Students who are left with a maximum of 4 language center courses (for e.g. those passing from level 1 to level 2 obtaining a minimum of "C" grade in their regular courses), can maintain their grant for the following semester.

If the student obtains a failing grade of ("D", "F" or "WF") in one regular course or in a language center course either in level 1 or 2, s/he will be placed on financial aid probation with a conditional grant for the following semester regardless of the SGPA.

If the student fails in more than one regular course or more than a language center course either in level 1 or 2, s/he will automatically lose his/her grant for the following semester regardless of the SGPA. The following table summarizes the data above:

Maximum 4 courses at the Langue Center with a grade of « P » and a passing grade of ("A", "B" or "C") in regular courses

Good standing: Maintain grant for the following semester

Maximum 4 courses at the Langue Center with a grade of « P » and a failing grade of « D », « F », or « WF » in one regular or language center course

Financial aid probation with conditional grant for the following semester regardless of the SGPA

Failure in more than one regular or language center course with the grade of « D », « F », or « WF »

Financial aid suspension for the following semester regardless of the SGPA

Graduates (Master Candidates)

Graduate beneficiaries are eligible for AUI grant for a maximum of four (4) semesters. To be eligible for aid and to retain eligibility, a student must be making satisfactory academic progress by achieving a minimum semester grade point average (SGPA). Therefore; all graduate financial aid recipients must maintain a minimum SGPA of 3.00/4.00 at the end of each semester. Students who fail to meet this requirement during the fall or spring semester are placed on financial aid probation for the following semester. If they are unable to re-achieve satisfactory academic standing at the conclusion of the probationary semester, they are placed on "financial aid suspension" until such time that they satisfy the semester grade point average requirement. If, on the other hand, students obtain a semester grade point average below 2.50/4.00, they lose their eligibility to financial aid for the following semester. The summer session GPA will not be taken into account either for probation, suspension or reinstatement.

The following table summarizes the data above:

Semester Status

Grant Decision

SGPA ≥ 3.00

Good standing: maintain grant for the following semester

SGPA between 2.50 – 2.99

Probation and maintain grant with condition to obtain
SGPA 3.00 or better for the following semester

SGPA below 2.50

Grant suspension for the following semester until
you reach SGPA 3.00 or higher

SGPA below 3.00 after two
consecutive semesters

Grant suspension for the following semester until
you reach SGPA 3.00 or higher

A separate financial aid system is also applicable to students with AUI grant enrolled in Language Center courses with some foundation courses in their first or second semester at AUI.

Students who are left with a maximum of 4 language center courses (for e.g. those passing from level 1 to level 2) obtaining a passing grade of "P" in all LC courses, can maintain their grant for the following semester.
However, if the student obtains a failing grade in a language center or a foundation course, s/he will be placed on financial aid probation with a conditional grant for the following semester.
On the other hand, if the student fails in more than one foundation or language center course (or in one foundation and one language center course), s/he will automatically lose his/her grant for the following semester regardless of his/her SGPA.

The following table summarizes the data above:

Obtaining a passing grade of « P » in a maximum of 4 language center courses

Good standing: Maintain grant

Obtaining a failing grade in one foundation or a regular course

Financial aid probation with conditional grant

Obtaining a failing grade in more than one
foundation or one language center course

Financial Aid Suspension regardless of the SGPA

Obtaining a failing grade in one foundation and one language center course

Financial Aid Suspension regardless of the SGPA
