Policy Development
Al Akhawayn policies are owned by their respective units under the authority of the unit head, who is either a University vice president, dean, or other official. In the development process, policies receive rigorous review by two standing committees: the University Executive Officers (UEO), in University-wide Executive Meetings, and the Policy Advisory Group (PAG), which meets monthly.
The UEO, a group of vice presidents and deans and directors, approves proposals for new policies and major revisions to existing ones. Once the proposed new or revised policy is approved to move forward, the next step for the concerned unit is to draft the full document, consulting with identified stakeholders and assisted by an editorial committee. The fully drafted policy is reviewed, or "reality-tested," by the PAG, comprised mainly of senior university administrators, and expert faculty. Once the review is complete and any necessary revisions are made, policies return to the UEO for final approval before promulgation to the university community. Academic policies also require approval of the Academic Council (AC).
At all stages of this process, the University Policy Unit (UPU) provides support to the concerned unit through a Policy Development Tool Kit. The Tool Kit includes documents and other information used in developing policy proposals, policy drafts, templates, etc.
