The Program

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BAIS) offers students the opportunity to have a comprehensive grounding in international affairs and issues. Sponsored by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the program provides students with important factual knowledge as well as key theoretical and analytical skills. Students also gain valuable practical and professional experience through a successful internship program.

Who is the program for?

The BAIS program is designed for students who hold the Baccalaureat, or any equivalent secondary school diploma, and who are interested in:

  • pursuing a career in an international field.
  • gaining a broad range of knowledge and skills in International Studies.
  • progressing to Masters and eventually Doctoral-level studies in areas related to International Studies or other Social Sciences.

Program Description

The BAIS program consists of the components listed below. It is designed to give students specific skills and essential knowledge while providing them with a wide choice of courses:

  • University core courses in the fields of humanities, natural and social sciences provide all students with a solid Liberal Arts education. Students also improve their written and spoken language skills in English, Arabic and French.
  • School core courses teach students analytical skills, critical thinking and research methodologies.
  • International Studies major courses introduce students to key concepts and theories of International Studies, as well as to the main disciplines within the field.
  • Concentration courses aim to provide students with the opportunity to focus on fields and regions of their choice. Students can choose between Political Science and International Co-operation and Development, and between North African and Middle Eastern Studies, European Studies and American Studies.
  • Minor courses in either Business Administration, Communication Studies, Women and Development, Human Resource Development, or Computer Science.
  • Elective courses can be selected from any other program offered at AUI.
  • The BAIS program culminates with an internship and a senior research project.

An International Environment

Students majoring in International Studies have the opportunity to interact with students and faculty members from many different countries. Like other AUI students, they also have the possibility to study abroad.

Career Opportunities

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies prepares students for a range of careers in international organizations and international businesses, where knowledge of international issues is essential.

Financial Aid

Financial assistance is available upon request for students demonstrating academic merit and financial need. This assistance may include grants, loans or work-study.
