What is CAD?
The purpose of the Center for Academic Development (CAD) is to help
students improve the quality of their study and learning, with a view
to enabling them to maximize their own potential and the resources of
the University. In CAD courses students learn research and study skills,
approaches to problem solving, critical thinking, group interaction
skills, and computer skills.
CAD courses are required of all undergraduate students accepted into
AUI. Most students are also required to study English in the Language
Center.
CAD offers other types of academic support to the entire student population.
The Writing Center helps any willing undergraduate or graduate student
with written assignments, both academic and personal. Tutoring Services
supports students in learning specific courses across the entire university,
and matches strong student tutors with students needing help.
CAD addresses academic development not only by helping students but
by helping faculty develop and implement effective teaching. CAD helps
faculty by organizing workshops on effective pedagogical methodology,
including integrating technology in teaching, by coordinating the university's
resources in support of teaching, by individual consultation, and by
providing a framework for sharing information among colleagues at AUI
and elsewhere.
