Message from the President
In its fifteenth year of operation, AUI is
continuously adjusting its offerings both in
terms of content and methodology for the
reinforcement of its general principles of
liberal arts education, the strengthening of the
Anglo-Saxon tradition, and the preparation of
its graduates with the appropriate knowledge
and skills to succeed in a more globalized
education and work environment.
The strong and substantial University common core has been revised to focus on skills
and abilities most likely to better prepare students for their programs and develop their
understanding and ability to interact with their physical, emotional and intellectual
environments. More opportunity has been left for schools to enhance their core
programs.
The Center for Academic Development program has been concentrated in three
courses: Strategic Learning and Study Skills, Information Literacy Skills, Critical Thinking
and Analysis Skills. These are most likely to contribute directly and substantially to a
smooth transition from Moroccan high school education to a North American model
of university education. Closely linked to learning resources, these courses reinforce
students abilities to enhance their independent learning skills using various information
sources and latest information and communication technology, while developing their
general study skills, critical thinking, and team work abilities.
This semester, the university has taken a step further in providing students with more
opportunities to enjoy their freedom while taking responsibility for their actions.
Students are now able to select courses with their advisors and register online from
the comfort of their homes or campus rooms. Faculty and staff are available for advice
and help when needed.
The required community service and social work, along with the international
environment on campus, provide the students with invaluable opportunities to learn
to live, interact, mix with people of different backgrounds, and give back to their
communities be they national or international.
With all the above actions and opportunities, Al Akhawayn University is responding
to both students and faculty desires as well as the needs of international education
and the job market that continues to get more and more globalized.
